Whoever we may be

People often ask me, ‘What sort of church is Saint Mark’s?’ The first thing I usually say is it’s a wonderfully diverse bunch of people from many different cultures, countries and backgrounds. This is fantastic place because it says so much about the love of Jesus Christ that calls and beckons us to be a community or family.

With God there is always a welcome whoever we may be, regardless of how we may feel about ourselves, or what we may have done. We want everyone we have contact with to know that God not is an ogre in the sky waiting to ‘get you’ for some awful sin; He is a God of love ready to welcome us into relationship with Him, and experience the ‘fullness of life’ that he offers.

Another important aspect of our life together is that we feel we are people on a journey - a spiritual journey. No one feels they have arrived at the final destination or knows all the answers – there is further to travel and more to learn. God’s love is so wide, deep, high and long, that there is much to explore, which brings both challenges and excitement. We are all learners at St Mark’s.
